while in Vegas….here’s what we think...first there’s the Las Vegas
Monorail … monorail is an easy way to get up/down The Strip (from MGM Grand-south strip to Sahara-north strip), and even provides access to Downtown Las Vegas via short bus ride where you can check out Fremont Street Experience light show and what remains of “Old Vegas”…(walk from Sahara stop through The Sahara out to Strip... Catch Cat Ride Route 301(stops across from World's Largest Gift shop just north of Sahara) …. quicker than boarding Route 301 in lower areas of Strip and riding it the entire way downtown...
Taking the monorail means not being exposed to possible cab rides that take the “long way”, no getting stuck in traffic while meter climbs…
Here’s some tips on using the monorail system...route of monorail runs along back of strip hotels on east side…..if you need to go to a hotel on west side of strip...check the monorail maps to find which stop provides best access to that particular hotel…..most people find they ride the monorail more that they expected...so consider purchasing a 10 ride pass…(which may be shared) or your best bet would be a 3-day pass….which will help you explore the strip… One-day & 3-day passes are per person and may not be shared….some code prevents it from be used right away again ….multi-ride passes may be used by multiple riders at same stop...just hand it back to the next rider…”One Ride” is defined as every time you get on and off the monorail…..monorail is wheelchair friendly….seeing eye dogs are allowed….helpful security at every station…. Open containers are not allowed...however beverages in closed/closable containers (including ones with alcohol) are allowed. You should note that there are no restrooms at the monorail stops, you will have to rely on ones in hotel/casinos along the way...monorail stops are outdoors, covered but not heated/cooled…..trains run less than 10 minutes apart so you won’t be outside for long….trains have heating and A/C...day passes are for a 24 hour day….buy at noon, it’s good until next day at noon….3-day passes good for 72 hours… Buying tickets at station ticket machines….they take cash, credit, or debit card….touch screens….easy to use. If you want to get to Wynn’s, Venetian, TI, Fashion Show Mall….exit at Harrah’s… Headed for Stardust, Circus Circus, Riviera….use the Convention Center station… and walk 1 blk north to Convention Center Drive...make a left, walk 2 blks to Strip…
Another option mentioned above is CAT Route 301 (note the monorail does not operate 24 hours a day)...however bus for Route 301 operates from Downtown/Fremont Street Experience to/along entire Strip 24 hours a day, every day…..
Airport: Monorail does not yet go to the airport (expected date 2011), nor is their a dedicated connector bus….however, CAT Ride Route 108 operates between airport and Las Vegas Convention Center….you take Route 108 from McCarran Airport to Convention Center, then board monorail at the Convention Center stop…..returning from Convention Center monorail stop to airport, you catch CAT
(bus) Route 108
across street from stop along Paradise Road southbound (bus driving away from
The Stratosphere Tower)….note: there are no transfers or combination tickets
available….bus stops are generally just
past the
stoplights at major intersections, not before….
